Google's RCS-based Messages App has received a brand new update. This is in an effort to rival WhatsApp and iMessage. Google Messages now has a brand new logo. It also features the ability to respond to individual messages, reminds and many other functions.

Google introduces new features for Messages

The new logo for Google Messages is now available. It matches the design aesthetics of all other Google apps. In the next few weeks, this will be available to everyone. This will be applied to the Phone and Contacts applications as well. The app icons can also be used with the Material You theme. This would mean their appearances will vary depending on what wallpaper or theme is installed on your Android smartphone.

Voice Message Transcription, which automatically transcribes audio messages, is available on the Pixel 6A and Pixel 6 Pro as well as the Samsung Galaxy S22 and Galaxy Fold 4.

You can also reply to messages in chats, just like you can do on WhatsApp or iMessage. Google Messages started getting the ability to view iMessage reactions and the ability to react to a message sent from an iPhone. It is currently being rolled out across the globe.

People can view YouTube videos sent to Messages. This is similar to WhatsApp. You will also receive reminders within Messages regarding various events, which saves you from searching for different apps.

Google Messages allows you to "ability to star essential messages" so you won't need to go through hundreds of conversations to locate the one address. The app uses machine learning to suggest Google Meet Calls if you mention calls.

You will also be able contact businesses located via Search and Maps through Messages. However, this feature is only available in a few countries. Google Messages works across all devices (Chromebooks, smartwatches), and will get additional features over time.
