Who's Pochita the Chainsaw Man? (Explained)

Spoiler Warning This guide includes spoilers regarding characters and their abilities as well as the plot of Chainsaw man's Public Safety Arc. We suggest you_ watch the Chainsaw Man anime or read the manga first, at least till chapter 104, to avoid ruining the story.

Pochita is Chainsaw Man

Pochita, the Chainsaw Devil is the Chainsaw Man manga/anime. As we explained in our devils, fiends, and hybrids explainer for Chainsaw Man, Pochita is a devil who is the manifestation of the fear of chainsaws. In Chapter 87, Pochita is shown fighting with four devils called the Horsemen before being nearly killed.

Pochita, in her weak state, adopted an adorable dog-like appearance and met Denji (protagonist). Their friendship blossomed when Denji became a devil hunter in order to repay his father's debts towards the yakuza. Their bond becomes so strong that Pochita offers Denji his heart to save him. Denji was granted the power in exchange for Pochita's dreams.

Are Pochitas Dead or Alive in the World?

The first episode of Chainsaw Man's anime shows that Pochita makes a self-sacrificing act to save Denji. You can rest assured, this adorable and deadly devil remains active. This devil has changed its state, and it now serves as Denji's heart. It is this that Pochita confirms when he contacts Power and Denji subconsciously at the close of the Public Safety Arc.

Pochita Forms

You now know Pochita, Chainsaw Man's creator. Let's look at the various CSM devil forms. They include:

  • Devil Form
  • Weakened/Near-Death Form
  • Hybrid Form/Chainsaw Man

OriginalDevil Form

Pochita's original form, the devil form, is its most powerful and powerful. This form can eliminate all devils from the world. We'll get to that more later. This devil-like form depicts Pochita with its four-armed appearance. Then, there's the chainsaw at its head and four chainssaws that extend from its arms.

Pochita has wrapped its intestines around his devil-like form to add to the sinister appearance. The chainsaw head has sharp horns and the majority of Pochita's skin is covered in a stone-like armour.

Pochita can take full control of Denji's body if the contract between them is breached. In this case, he will transform into his devilish form. This is more powerful than Denji's hybrid Chainsaw Man Form, but also affects his human side.

Weakened/ Near-Death Form

Pochita, in his lowest state of health, becomes a small and cute dog-like creature. This is what we meet during the first episodes of Chainsaw Man. Pochita in this condition is not strong enough to defend itself. It is a useful weapon, which Denji uses to fight small-time devils for a living.

In the anime, the current form of Pochita is Denji's heart (see how it looks right here). Denji was saved by Pochita, who merged himself with Denji’s heart to create the Chainsaw Man hybrid. Pochita still looks cute, but his weakened body is apparent. He doesn't have the chainsaw that used to be on his head. Genji now has a cord hanging from his chest that replaces the chainsaw's iconic head. Denji is able to feel the power of chainsaws when this cord is pulled. He can see them revving up in his arms and head, and he becomes Chainsaw Man.

Chainsaw Man Pochita : Powers

Each devil shares some abilities with other devil clan members in the CSM universe. Each devil also has its own set of abilities, which correspond to the fear that they represent. Both sets of abilities have been included in separate sections.

Common Devil Abilities

Pochita's and all devils share the following common capabilities:

Healing Pochita is able to drink blood and heal himself quickly. In a complete devil state, Pochita can generate even without blood. Chainsaw Man's opening section shows this ability first. Pochita eats Denji’s blood in order to heal herself.

Chainsaw Man's durability is a combination of its hybrid and devil form. It can withstand explosions and direct combat and extreme heat without sustaining any damage. In Chapter 89, Pochita is put to the ultimate test when Makima employs a number of attack on a weak Chainsaw Man. But he survives.

Pochita's strength is a superior weapon to dealing massive damage to his enemies. The War devil manga chapter 104 claims this when it says that Pochita could take on the Four Horsemen, and even was capable of eating parts.

Pochita is fast. Most enemies can't keep up. Pochita can turn up the speed and slice through enemies before they even have time to react. This is evident in Chapter 87 where Pochita kills Makima’s henchmen immediately he comes into contact.

Special Abilities

These are the powers that only Chainsaw devil and Pochita have:

Pochita is the embodiment and fearful of chainsaws. He can transform its head, arms and legs into chainssaws. They can then be used quickly to dismember enemy soldiers. This ability can be found in almost all CSM fights.

Regeneration Pochita is able to easily restore body parts, and create a temporary, independent body if necessary. To deceive Makima, Pochita creates an independent second body in Chapter 95.

Chains Pochita is able to unhook chainsaw chains and make them a weapon. These chains are used to wrap the bodies of his opponents on numerous occasions. In the right circumstances, however, he can hook the chains to buildings faster for a Spider-Man-like motion, according to Beam, Chapter 95.

  • DevilErasure Devils generally go to hell after they have died on Earth, and vice versa. However, the Chainsaw devil can consume a devil and make it disappear. Although this power is limited to Pochita as a complete devil, it can make an enemy vanish - physically and even mentally. It is still unclear why Pochita has such a powerful ability, and what it does. Chapter 84 is a great example of erasure. Kishibe can't recall AIDS and World Wars. Makima tells Kishibe that Pochita has consumed the corresponding devils.

Partial Devil Elimination As shown in Chainsaw Man's second arc, Pochita can only consume a portion of devil, and that devil's concept is weakened. However, consuming only a portion of a devil doesn't completely eliminate it from existence. Pochita ate the War devil's body parts. So, while everyone remembers war as a concept, there has never been any actual war on Earth.

Chainsaw Man: Pochita Weakness

Like any devil from the Chainsaw Man universe Pochita is a powerful creature that gains power by fear. However, he lost power because of lack of fear. The fear of chainsaws is also a concern. This means that if chainsaws were not feared, the existence of this devil would cease to exist.

Pochita also has a soft spot for Denji. If an enemy wishes to hurt Pochita then targeting Denji's human side would be a good plan. These elements aside, Pochita has almost no weaknesses. We can still expect Chainsaw Man's next chapters to test his capabilities and expose more of his weaknesses.

Chainsaw Man Wants Every Devil's Heart

You might guess that Pochita holds the ability to destroy another devil. The other devils can only make others move between dimensions, hell or earth. Pochita, however can consume devils and erase their existence completely using Devil Erasure. After a devil is deleted, all signs of their existence have been erased. Nobody remembers that such devils existed or even the terror they evoked.

This power can change the lives of both the devils and humans. Some devils are determined to seize the Chainsaw Man's heart and Pochita, the hybrid, in order to have control of this powerful power. Some devils simply wish to destroy Chainsaw Man and Pochita in order to eliminate such an immense power. Although Pochita is the only one who can remove devils, it wouldn't make sense to kill him.
